Transitioning from film to fine art
I’ve always been fascinated by the play of light in nature and how it reveals the poetry of our living world. As a cinematographer for many decades, that fascination was expressed in filming a wide variety of projects including music videos for artists such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
I’ve sketched sporadically throughout my life, but 10 years ago, when my wife and I traveled to Italy, something changed. I happened to bring a sketchbook with me and found myself drawing the beautiful textures and scenes that surrounded us. What had been a passing interest was now an obsession. When I got home, I immediately began the systematic study of representational art.
I’m still an actively working cinematographer who draws and paints as much as possible. I continue to be enchanted by our world of light and color and I’m grateful for these opportunities to capture that magic in works of art.
